As in, baking a record album, not setting any baking records.
Yes, I have been placing record albums in my oven and baking them into bowls.
Why? Because it ROCKS. Literally.
Set an oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
Place an oven-safe bowl upside down on a baking sheet.
Pull out your record album of choice – I chose a Bachman-Turner-Overdrive self-titled album (and before you get all up in my mix, I checked around, and the internet is teeming with their albums for about two bucks each, not necessarily a priceless treasure…). DO NOT use any Led Zeppelin albums. Send those directly to me for safekeeping. Ahem.
Center the record on top of your bowl.
Place in the preheated oven and time for about two minutes. Really, that’s all!
Once two minutes have passed, pull out the baking sheet and with oven mitts, shape the record over the bowl until you have the desired shape. You will need to work quickly and safely (two hundred degree plastic is still hot plastic!), and if it hardens before you are happy with it set it right back in the oven for another two minutes and repeat the process.
It hardens almost immediately, so your bowl will be ready for use pronto!
Hope that inspires you to look around and find new uses for old, rockin’ things.
I would love to hear about it!
ps – up next, the recipe for THESE.
